In this essay, I shall explain each character in details.

The person's quality is determined by whom s/he is associated with and the community value is determined by the people who live there. So if you want to be recognized as a good person then it is better to have a good neighbor.

The qualities of the neighbor is becoming more important aspect in todays life. The influence of the neighbor is important in every stage of the life, from kids to elderly life.

Kids need good neighbor so that they can have good friends circle to play around. For kids, the importance of the good neighbor is as equal as having good schools, parents and teachers.

Eelderly people need good neighbors so that they will not be disturbed and can feel safe and secure.

Some people think that they can learn better by themselves whereas others think that they can learn better with teacher's help. I prefer to learn with teacher's help because I beleive that is the most effective way to learn the subjects.

First of all, it is always easy to get jump start on the subject from the teacher. This will give handle on the subject so that students will quickly get involved on the subject. Additionally teacher will bring more insight on the subject which may not available of the text book. The meaning of the subject may interpreted differently from what it supposed to meant.

Secondly, teachers can customize the difficulty level of the subject based on students capability and background. For instance, the same subject can be easy for some students but difficult for others. Also teachers can provide real time example which is related to the local knowledge of the student. Additionally, student get an opportunity to verify whether the understanding on the subject is correct or not. All these these things make the learning process easier and enjoyable.

Finally, teachers provide guidance on what to read, how to read to, where the materials are avilable and what would be the best approach to study particular subject and so on.

The Most Memorable Event Of The Last 10 Years

Tsunami - What, Where, When?

The tsunami happens when undersea earthquake occurs. The earthquake happened in the Indian ocean turned out to be a major tsunami which affected countries such as Indonesia,Sumatra,Srilanka, Southern part of India and few Islands. This tragedy occurred on December 26th,2004, while most people celebrating their Christmas and New Year holidays. So in my view, the most unforgettable event of the last 10 years is the tsunami which swallowed hundreds of thousands of people before even they realized the catastrophic event.

The Magnitude

The tsunami affected not only the human lives but also affected the length of the day. It shortened the day by 2.68 microseconds. The total energy of the tsunami waves is higher than the total explosive energy used in World War II and is equvalent to 11 days of United States energy consumption.

The Impact

It impacted social life, economic, healthcare and environments. It took few months to cleanup the damages, thanks to overwhelming foreign aids, volunteers effort from various organizations and individuals and local governments support, which expedites the recover process for the people who lost their property, livestock, and shelter. Unlike developed world people, these people do not have any insurance to claim their losses. The non-profit organizations and local governments helped victims to restore their normal life to some extent.Despite all these aids and supports, one thing could not be restored - the life of so many kids who lost their parents and the life of so many parents who lost their beloved kids.

How to handle it in the future?

No one can be blamed for this kind of calamity. But using the latest technologies, the government can build some kind of warning system that would notify us in advance before it strikes the surface. All countries should work on a collaborative manner to share their ideas, technologies, manpowers and costs to successfully implement such an alert system.

The Star-Spangled Banner

The Star-Spangled Banner

—Francis Scott Key, 1814

O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Is the World Flat?

I just finished reading "The World Is Flat" by Thomas Friedman, the most famous columinst in America today. The book is so interesting and I would recommend this book to everyone regardless of their profession.

He did an excellent job in explaining the 10 things which flattened the world in last 15 years. He described how these flattening things are helping to improve the standard of life and at the same time how the bad guys are using these flattening things to deteriorate the world.
  1. The fall of the Berlin wall on 11/9/89
  2. The Netscape IPO on 8/9/95
  3. Workflow
  4. Oursourcing
  5. Offshoring
  6. Open Sourcing
  7. Supply Chain
  8. Insourcing
  9. Informing
  10. Steroids

However, in my view except the 1st one the rest of them are technological advancements in 21st century and these technical advancements are helping to evolve the flattning of world. So I would say that it just started evolving and it has not yet flattened the world. Still the geographic location does matter for business and face-to-face communcation has its own value. Most of the countries in Africa and Middle-East are not joined the flat world. They are still disconnected from the rest of the world. These technological advancements alone are not enough to bring them into the flat world. May be we need revolutionary political leaders at both local and international level to bring them into flat earth society.

For instance, the Oursourcing and Offshoring flattners have raised the standard of living for few millions, fraction of the total population, in India and China, both countries have total population of more than 2 billion.

There was an article from Wall Street Journal last week about H1B quota increase. Both Bill Gates and Scott Mcnelly were in favor of increasing the visa quota because they still need more poeple locally here at their headquarters rather than working remotely from India or some other countries.

Another article in Buiness week June,2006 issue, 'Why Apple logged out of India'.

Things I Love to Do

I like to read subjects such as economics, business, technology and current affairs. I really enjoy reading these subjects on daily basis.

The primary reason is that it helps me to understand and participate in our society and helps me to take a calculated risk in day-to-day decision making process. It provides the tools and knowledge required to compete in modern world.

Also, it enhances my ability to view the new world which I have never seen. It improves the quality of life, awareness and confident.

Most of the time I encounter new ideas and opportunities by reading these areas. These areas are complementing each other and goes hand-in-hand.

The leader I Admire

Mohandas Gandhi

I admire Mohandas Gandhi for many reasons. The primary reason is that he fought for India's freedom. His honesty, dignity and principles which include truth,non-violence,vegetarianism,simplicity and faith, attracted millions of Indians and these followers accepted Gandhi as their leader for Indian independence movement.

Gandhi is commonly known as Mahatma for most of the people and recognized as father of the India. He was one of the greatest political and spiritual leaders in 20th century.

He not only fought against the British but also fought against other issues such as discrimination, women's rights, poverty, education and so on. Gandhi's life and teachings inspired other western leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Albert Einstein said of Gandhi: "Generation to come would scarcely believe that such a one as this walked the earth in flesh and blood".

My Circle of Influence -CoI [we can do something to change]

Proactive people focus on their efforts in the CoI.

The proactive approach to a mistake is to acknowledge it instantly, correct and learn from it. This literally turns a failure into a success.
